Reps Announces Appoints Fred Agbedi, Minority Leader, Other Principal Officers
The House of Representatives has announced new minority principal officers, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty over the positions. Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, announced Bayelsa lawmaker, Fred Agbedi, as Minority Leader, Bauchi member, Mansur Manu, as Minority Whip, and Sokoto lawmaker, Abdusamad Dasuki, as Deputy Minority Leader.
The Speaker said their emergence completes the composition of the House leadership and congratulated the new officers.
Earlier, Imo State lawmaker, Ikenga Ugochinyere, and a group of supporters entered the Chamber, chanting “No Announcement, No Sitting” in protest of the delay in naming the minority leadership.
However, shortly after the announcement, Ugochinyere formally withdrew from the race through a letter read by the Speaker.
An attempt by Rivers lawmaker, Solomon Bob, to raise a point of order was declined, while Ugochinyere and his supporters later congratulated the newly announced principal officers.
