Reps Members Clash Over Signature Forgery For New Minority Leader Appointment
Tempers flared in the House of Representatives when lawmakers clashed over allegations of signature forgery linked to the appointment of a new Minority Leader.
A lawmaker from Benue State, Philip Agbese, raised a matter of privilege, alleging that his name and signature were used without his consent in a document circulating on social media endorsing Imo lawmaker, Ikenga Ugochinyere, for Minority Leader.
He denied signing any endorsement and dismissed claims that lawmakers received N50 million in connection with the contest.
Ugochinyere, however, insisted that Agbese signed the document but denied any financial inducement.
The disagreement triggered a rowdy session in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, eventually restored order and assured the House that the allegations would be investigated.
