Kwankwaso also spoke on the reason he defected from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, with Peter Obi. He also gave insight into why Obi emerged NDC presidential candidate, including his vice presidential candidature.

Kwankwaso highlighted: "We had issues of litigation, three major court cases, what the INEC did to our party, that is removing the names of the National Secretary of our party and the National Chairman, that is Aregbesola and David Mark, respectively. So, the court, the Supreme Court decided that the names should be taken back, which they did immediately. But for the party to go back and start all over again, we realized that there was no enough time.

"So, when we find ourselves in such a situation, we thought it is wiser to get a new party that was registered. Uptil today, it is about three months old and there was no litigation. You can see, I think to a very large extent, so far, the action was just right.

"On the other hand, we sat down and looked at the situation of this country; and we decided that the flagship of our candidate should go to the South. And of course, to finish the four years. The vice presidential ticket was sent to the North. And in their own wisdom, they decided that I should fly that ticket.

"Our idea is to save the country. I don't have to be president or vice president as long as we can have a better Nigeria..."
