Insecurity: Former IG, Tafa Balogun Recommends Rectangular Synergy

The former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun has recommended Rectangular synergy approach as the panacea for lingering spate of insecurity in the country.

Speaking at the headquarters of the Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele Ibadan, Balogun, the initiator of Community Policing in the Nigeria Police Force urged all Nigerians to prevent a repeat of EndSARS protest in Nigeria.

Speaking in Ibadan at a Community Policing Sensitization campaign at the Headquarters of the Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan, former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun said community police was part of his eight-point Agenda while in office.

He maintained that the idea was jettisoned due to some hiccups adding that the rebirth of Community Police remains a right step in the right direction.

The former Inspector general of police decried the impacts of the last EndSARS protest during which innocent lives and property were lost.

While commending officers and men of the state police command for their professionalism during the last crisis, Balogun charged them to always defend themselves during the crisis.

The former Inspector general of Police also enjoined all Nigerians to see security as collective responsibility stressing that members of the public and the police must continue to see themselves as partners in progress.

The Inspector-General of Police in charge of research and training, Leye Oyebade and the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Chucks Enwonwu commended the former Inspector General of Police his foresight adding that Community Policing remains the effective panacea for conflict resolution.

Also, the representative of other sister security agencies in the state, Group Captain Abba Aliyu Muhammed, commander 67 Naf detachment, Ibadan assured the gathering the determination of other agencies to support the initiative.

On his part, Governor Seyi Makinde who was represented by his Deputy, Rauf Olaniyan thanked officers and men of the command for their resilience adding that the government will continue to ensure their safety at all times.

He called for mutual relationship between the government, police and the people.
