NAFDAC Commences Mop-Up of Banned Sachet Alcohol, Sub-200ml PET Bottles
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has commenced enforcement of the ban on sachet packaged alcohol across the country. The Agency has, accordingly, begun mop-up of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from circulation, to enforce compliance with the Federal Government's ban on the production, importation, distribution, sale, and consumption of those products.
NAFDAC enforcement teams are deployed to markets, motor parks, retail outlets, bars, and other distribution channels to identify, seize, and remove banned products from circulation. The Agency has enjoined manufacturers, importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, transporters, and other stakeholders to immediately surrender any remaining stock, warning that continuous possession or sale of the banned products constitutes a violation of the law and may attract seizure, regulatory sanctions, and prosecution.
NAFDAC has called on members of the public to desist from buying banned products either for consumption or sales, and report anyone producing, distributing, or selling such products to the nearest NAFDAC office or call 0800-1-623322.
