Motorists travelling towards Mile 12 in Lagos faced disruption on Thursday after two container-laden trucks overturned near the Mile 12 Bridge, blocking both the expressway and service lane.

The accident, which occurred overnight inward Owode, disrupted traffic from Ojota, Ketu and Ile-Ele, forcing authorities to divert vehicles through alternative routes.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) attributed the incident to a suspected loss of control caused by over-speeding.

In an incident report issued on Thursday morning, the agency said its Rescue and Recovery Team had been deployed to clear the obstruction.

Each of the overturned trucks was carrying a 20-foot container, while a crane had arrived at the scene to assist with the recovery operation.

To ease the congestion, LASTMA directed motorists approaching the Mile 12 Bridge from Ojota, Ketu and Ile-Ele to use the service lane through Ajelogo Junction towards Owode-Onirin.

The agency urged motorists to obey traffic instructions and exercise caution around the affected area until the recovery operation was completed.

No casualties or injuries had been reported as of the time of the agency's update.
