Two suspected members of an infrastructure vandalism gang have been arrested in Abuja after police recovered several cut armoured cables in the Guzape area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspects were arrested following a midnight patrol by operatives of the Guzape Police Division, who spotted two suspiciously parked vehicles along Walter Ofonagoro Street.

The FCT Police Command said the incident happened at about 1.30am on October 31, 2026, when officers sighted a Lexus SUV and a Toyota Sienna parked under suspicious circumstances.

CULPRIT

According to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the occupants fled in the vehicles upon sighting the police operatives, abandoning an accomplice who attempted to escape on foot.

The officers pursued and arrested the suspect, identified as Sagir Abubakar, from Kuchigoro Village in the FCT.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked him to a gang accused of targeting secluded locations to vandalise public and private infrastructure.

A search of the surrounding area where the suspects had been sighted led to the recovery of several cut-to-size armoured cables.
Further investigations resulted in the arrest of another suspected gang member, identified as Seidu Umar Bello, who had initially escaped in one of the vehicles.

The police said investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities and track down other members of the gang still at large.

The command added that the suspects would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
It urged residents to report suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
