Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has sworn in six new commissioners to fill vacancies created by the resignation of former members of the State Executive Council seeking elective political offices.
The new commissioners took their oaths of office and allegiance on Tuesday at the Government House in Minna, with the governor directing them to resume work immediately.
The Chief Magistrate I, Murtala Ibrahim, administered the oaths during the ceremony held at the Council Chamber.
Bago charged the commissioners to prioritise the interests of Niger State and deploy their experience towards delivering on his administration’s development agenda.
He also directed them to work closely with permanent secretaries in their respective ministries and familiarise themselves with ongoing programmes and projects.
The governor said permanent secretaries had been instructed to provide the new commissioners with detailed briefings and reports on the activities of their ministries.
“I urge you to bring your wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of your duties,” Bago told the commissioners.
He had earlier assigned portfolios to the six appointees.
Their appointment followed the resignation of six commissioners who left the cabinet to pursue their political ambitions ahead of the forthcoming elective contests.
