Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has thanked Lionel Messi for calling him and offering encouragement after what he described as a “difficult night”.
The Spain international disclosed this in a Facebook post on Tuesday, expressing appreciation for the Argentine’s personal support.
“A big thank you to Leo Messi. Goat!
“Thank you for calling me, checking on me, and giving me your support. Your words meant a lot to me, especially after a difficult night,” Yamal wrote.
The 19-year-old also praised Messi’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, declaring that no player performed better than the Argentine at the tournament.
“No player was better than Messi in the 2026 FIFA World Cup!” he wrote in a separate post.
Yamal’s comments followed Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, where he finished third behind winner Harry Kane and runner-up Kylian Mbappe.
Although Yamal did not explicitly link Messi’s call to the award result, his reference to a difficult night came amid the ceremony.
The Barcelona forward has repeatedly expressed admiration for Messi, widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players, following the World Cup, where Spain finished ahead of Argentina.
