Real Madrid has demanded the immediate resignation of La Liga president Javier Tebas over his comparison of the club’s communication strategy to propaganda techniques used by Nazi Germany.

The Spanish giants, in a statement published on Friday, described Tebas’s remarks as offensive and incompatible with the responsibilities of his positions as La Liga president and vice-president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

Tebas had accused Real Madrid’s management of directing a coordinated messaging strategy, with the club’s television channel leading the campaign.

He said the approach involved selecting favourable incidents, repeatedly highlighting grievances, creating suspicion and identifying enemies. He likened these methods to those used by Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s propaganda minister, while stressing that his comparison concerned propaganda techniques rather than Nazi ideology or Real Madrid supporters.

Real Madrid rejected the distinction, describing the comments as “absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious”.

The club also characterised the remarks as part of what it called repeated attacks by Tebas against its management and media outlets.

The dispute has extended to the long-running Negreira case, involving payments made by Barcelona to a former vice-president of Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees over several years.

Real Madrid criticised what it described as the lack of an adequate response from the football institutions in which Tebas holds senior positions. It said it had approached UEFA to seek a full investigation into the payments.

The club also called for a comprehensive overhaul of the refereeing system and relevant federation structures.

It argued that Tebas’s conduct raised questions about his neutrality, respect and impartiality, concluding that he should no longer remain in his current positions.

“Real Madrid demands his immediate resignation as president of LaLiga and vice-president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation,” the statement said.
