Northern senators have called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for a bandit attack on the Binari community in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, which reportedly claimed the lives of worshippers, vigilantes, women and children.

The Northern Senators Forum, in a condolence statement signed by its chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, on Monday, expressed shock over the attack, which occurred on Friday.

The lawmakers commiserated with the Taraba State Government and residents over the loss of life while calling on security agencies to strengthen operations to prevent further attacks in the area.

They urged the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to step up security along the Karim-Lamido and River Benue corridor.

The senators specifically called for the establishment of a Forward Operating Base and intelligence-led patrols along the Kompany-Asusar route to improve security and protect vulnerable communities.

They also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency and well-meaning individuals to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to those affected by the attack.

The forum called for a thorough investigation to identify, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.

Praying for the victims, the senators asked Allah to forgive the deceased, grant them Al-Jannah Firdaus, heal the injured and comfort bereaved families. They also prayed for lasting peace in Taraba State and Nigeria.
