Court dismisses Johnbosco's bail application

The Rivers state High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital, has dismissed the bail application of a former sergeant, identified as Johnbosco Okoroeze who is currently facing a charge bothering on aiding and abetting, among other charges.

The sergeant in the murder trial of Ifeanyi Dike, who is accused of killing an eight-year-old girl, Chikamso Victory, was denied bail application by the Court.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli ordered that the 3rd defendant is remanded in prison custody, pending the duration of the case.
Justice Enebeli said Okoroeze might intend to interfere with the witnesses’ evidence after he had considered all factors.

Lezina Ameguo, counsel to 1st defendant, Ifeanyi Dike moved an application that the court grants his client medical facility that will check his mental state of health, adding that such medical facility should be government owned and should be given 30 days for the medical checkup if granted.

Opposing the application, the state counsel and Attorney general of the state, Emma Aguma said there are no facts to show that the 1st defendant is mentally derailed or his state of mind is not okay.

Justice Adolphus Enebeli adjourned the case on ruling if the application for medical checkup be granted to the 2nd of February.

Chikwele Bekwe, counsel to Johnbosco, however, said they may seek an appeal on the refusal of the court on the bail application of his client.

Recall that sacked Sergeant was charged with aiding and abetting a murder suspect after he was dismissed for alleged negligence due to the escape of the main suspect in the murder trial of an eight-year-old girl, Chikamso victory.
