There is indicator of renewed disquiet over the rising insecurity in the country. Pressure has been placed on the National Assembly by Nigeria Citizens Watch for Good Governance, NCWGG, to support adequate funding, improved welfare packages for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, including the provision of modern military equipment to strengthen national security.
The group commended President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the expansion of the Nigerian Army to 12 divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel, describing the move as a significant step towards boosting the country’s security architecture and enhancing the operational capacity of the military.
NCWGG, at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, expressed confidence in the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Ibrahim Shuaibu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, saying their leadership has contributed to ongoing efforts to improve security operations across the country.
