There is palpable tension over an online video leakage showing the police torturing a Nigerian citizen to death in xenophobia South Africa.

The emergent videos showed the police torturing a Nigerian citizen to death in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Consulate General at Nigerian High Commission, Johannesburg, acknowledged that the death torture happened on July 23rd in Bellville, Cape Town. The deceased was identified as Ibeh Chika Simon.

One of the videos showed a South African police officer blocking the victim's breathing with a polyethylene bag to suffocate him.

The Federal Government has called for immediate and transparent investigation.

The Nigerian Consulate, in a statement, protested the use of excessive force by South African police, including the shooting of another Nigerian, Egwabor Patrick Chuks, currently receiving treatment.
