Adelabu Forbids Discos From Asking Communities To Buy Transformers And Cables.

The Minister for Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu has said it is now criminal to ask communities to buy transformers, poles and electric cables . He made this known in Ibadan during a working visit to the state.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has directed Distribution Companies (DisCos) in the country to stop asking communities to buy transformers instead of providing the items themselves.

Adelabu maintained that supply of transformers should be part of infrastructure investment of the power companies, emphasizing that the practice of communities buying transformers is over.

The minister gave the directive during a working visit to the headquarters of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and Ayede transmission station in ibadan.

Adelabu emphatically stated that IBEDC as a distribution company must be ready to provide transformers where they are needed, he however said government will not leave them to shoulder it alone.
He pointed out that as part of the 2024 budget, there are plans to intervene in acquiring meters for communities that requires them.
The minister also directed that estimated billing must be cancelled therewith.

The minister later paid a courtesy call on the state governor engineer Seyi Makinde and the soun of Ogbomosho land and other electricity facilities outside the state capital, to seek a healthy working relations with the state and various communities to achieve the the aims and aspirations of the TINUBU led administration in providing gradual stable and affordable electricity supply.
