Tinubu, NASS, advised to reject bill to provide for appointment of NSA Staff

President Bola Tinubu and Members of the National Assembly have been advised to reject a bill seeking for an act to provide framework for the appointment of staff of the office of the National Security Adviser.

According to the proposed Act, the NSA may, among others, appoint such staff as he seems necessary and expedient for the proper and efficient performance of the functions of the office.

Addressing Journalists on the matter in Abuja on Tuesday, leaders and members of the Civil Society for Peace, Security and Development described the bill as ambitious and being desperately pursued by some shady interest.

The Convener of the Group, Obadiah Solomon Ovye, maintained that the bill is shrouded in inadequacies that warrant careful scrutiny and consideration noting that, if enacted into law, would give the National Security Adviser sweeping powers that would allow it to bypass existing checks and balances as well as operate with little oversight.

It therefore called on President Tinubu and all relevant stakeholders as well as supporters of the country's democracy to oppose the bill.

The bill is currently before members of the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
