A non-governmental organisation (NGO), known as Sasakawa Africa Association, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has distributed farming kits to 150 beneficiaries in Gulak, Madagali Local Government, Adamawa.
Speaking at Thursday’s distribution, Idriss Garko, the NGO’s project lead, said the kits were intended to support innovative farming—specifically, vertical vegetable farming in post-conflict communities.
“I want all of you to note that after the training, you were selected to be given these kits to enable you to apply the skills in practice from today.

“We have people on the ground to monitor your operations; those who fail to use the kits will not benefit from other opportunities,” he said.
Garko thanked the Adamawa Government for providing an enabling environment for the project's implementation.
Idriss Abubakar, Adamawa Commissioner for Agriculture, called on the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity of modern agricultural farming to develop themselves.
The Commissioner, represented by Mr Emmanuel Audu, Agric Officer in the ministry, warned the beneficiaries not to sell the kits.
According to him, the intervention's impact will last for years if properly managed.
Dr Celine La’ori, Permanent Secretary, Adamawa Emergency Management Agency, appreciated the NGO and UNDP for the support to post-conflict communities.
La’ori, who was represented by Abdullahi Yakubu, the agency’s Information Officer, also advised the beneficiaries not to sell the kits.
“If you sell out these kits, you will regret your actions, hence the need to make judicious use of them for multiple benefits,” She said.
Halima Mohammed, Manager, Agricultural Development Project (ADP), called on the beneficiaries, especially the women among them, to be agents of change.
According to her, the project will enable them to produce healthy vegetables for their families and the community, which will help reduce cancer and other diseases among residents.
Yusuf Mohammed, Council Chairman, Madagali LGA, represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Stephen Ngara, appreciated the NGO and the state government for the initiative.
Hajara Umaru, a beneficiary, appreciated the gesture and pledged to make judicious use of the kits towards achieving the objectives of the initiative
