Troops of Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorists’ enclave in Waria Forest, Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists.

The operation, which led to the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles, was conducted during a clearance operation on Oct. 15.

This is contained in a statement by Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Friday in Gusau, Zamfara.

According to him, troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorists’ enclaves along Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest and made contact with the terrorists.

He said during the firefight, troops dominated the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.

“Troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process.

“Further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and all life-support structures, as well as the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.

“Troops have continued to maintain a strong operational presence in the general area, sustaining clearance and domination operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and enhance the security of surrounding communities,” he said.

According to Danja, the latest success underscores the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist enclaves, denying terrorist elements safe havens and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area.

“The Theatre Command commends the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts, and urges members of the public to continue supporting ongoing operations.

“The command needs public support through the provision of timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities within their communities,” he advised.
