The Nigerian Senate has called on the Federal Government to investigate the recent flood in Mokwa, Niger State, as well as similar flooding incidents across the country. The upper chamber emphasized the need for this inquiry to develop long-term solutions, including enhanced and sustainable flood control infrastructure and early warning systems to prevent future disasters.Galaxy Television reports that these resolutions followed a motion presented by Senator Peter Jiya, supported by over 20 senators during Tuesday's plenary session.

Senator Jiya noted that the devastating flood occurred on May 29 and 30, following heavy rainfall that severely affected Mokwa. Contributing, Senator Victor Umeh described the flood as a monumental tragedy for the nation.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who presided over the session, expressed condolences to the government and people of Niger State. The Senate also observed a minute’s silence to honor those who lost their lives in the flood.
