Amnesty International has called for an investigation into an attack suffered by the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Friday.

Galaxy TV reported that Sowore accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of aiding the thugs that attacked him shortly after he finished an interview at MIDAS FM.

He shared on X, "We have been brutally attacked and injured by well-armed government-sponsored thugs in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The
@OfficialDSSNG provided these attackers with our exact location, enabling them to carry out this vicious assault. We won’t back down! We have a country to liberate!

"This is the level of infamy to which Nigeria has been subjected! Those who brutally attacked us in Ado-Ekiti today came from the Government House @ekitistategov. They are well known, and they were provided with tracking and operational support by the
@OfficialDSSNG."

Sowore revealed that since his entourage arrived in the state on Thursday, DSS operatives had been trailing and harassing them. He said they even threatened the manager of the place where they ate food, warning him never to allow them to use his premises again.

"Today, shortly after I completed an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti, the thugs descended on us in a violent attack, allegedly with the assistance of the DSS.

"The Commissioner of @PoliceNG in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, personally visited the scene of the brutal attack against us in Ado-Ekiti today. He saw firsthand the extensive injuries we sustained, yet he has the audacity to issue a despicable statement describing a coordinated, violent attack as a mere “altercation.”

Sowore also dismissed a reported claim by the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police that the incident was just an altercation.

"The Commissioner saw the injuries, witnessed the aftermath of the violence, and was fully aware of the seriousness of what happened. Yet his Command has chosen to trivialise the attack, even describing the injuries as “minor.”

"No wonder allegations have emerged that the Commissioner of Police himself was involved. This is despicable!

"Video shows the CP leaving the emergency room after observing the extensive injuries," he said.

Reacting, Amnesty wrote on X, "Amnesty International is deeply concerned by the attack and abduction of activist Omoyele Sowore and his campaign team in Ekiti State at approximately 1:00 p.m. today, 30th October, 2026. Right now, their whereabouts are unknown. This incident must be immediately investigated, and Sowore’s whereabouts established."
