The Senate has condemned the attack in Binari community, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba, which reportedly claimed about 80 lives.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Sen Shuaibu Lau (APC Taraba) at plenary on Wednesday.
In his motion, Lau raised concerns about fear, displacement, and disruption of peaceful community life following the incident.
He said the continued threat posed by armed bandits to rural communities undermines the constitutional responsibility of government to protect lives and property.
He expressed concern that recurrence of violent attacks in Binari and surrounding communities, if not urgently addressed, could lead to further loss of lives and destruction of property.
He said the attacks could lead to further displacement of residents and increased humanitarian challenges.
He said protecting lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of government and stressed that no community should be left at the mercy of criminal groups.
Following the Senate motion, the Senate urged security agencies to deploy more personnel and set up additional security camps to increase surveillance around the borders of Taraba, Plateau and Bauchi states.
It also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to immediately provide relief materials to the affected communities.
Senate thereafter observed a one-minute silence in honour of those who lost their lives in the attack.
