The Senate has called for the establishment of security outposts and joint surveillance camps along vulnerable border corridors linking Taraba, Plateau and Bauchi states following a deadly attack on Binnari community in Taraba State.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau, representing Taraba North, who told lawmakers that gunmen attacked the agrarian community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area on Friday, October 23, killing residents, looting businesses and setting houses ablaze.

The attack reportedly forced residents to flee their homes, while casualty estimates from official and other sources ranged from at least 40 to 80 deaths.
Lau urged the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security along the affected corridors through forward-operating bases and joint surveillance camps to prevent further attacks.

The Senate’s resolution came amid concerns over the vulnerability of communities around the borders of the three states to armed attacks.
Lawmakers also observed a minute of silence for the victims of the Binnari massacre.

The Senate paid tribute to Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, former national leader of Afenifere, who reportedly died on October 20, 2026, aged 100.
Senators described Fasoranti as a prominent figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle and an advocate of constitutional federalism.

The chamber resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with the Ondo State Government and the late elder statesman’s family.
