The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, over the alleged killing of her newborn baby in Abuja.

The police said the woman allegedly killed the male infant with a razor blade before abandoning the body in a bush around Jabi, Abuja.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, operatives of the Jabi Division recovered the lifeless baby on October 4 after receiving a distress call.

The infant was found with deep wounds to the throat and abdomen and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Adeh said preliminary investigation showed that Yohanna had given birth to the baby inside her room on October 3 before allegedly inflicting the fatal injuries.

The suspect reportedly told investigators that she committed the act because of hatred for the baby’s father.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, condemned the incident and ordered a thorough investigation.

The police said Yohanna remains in custody and will be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
