The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and cultists and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun and 55 live cartridges in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were arrested by the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team following intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers and armed robbers operating around the Uduere community.

The command’s spokesperson, Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement on the operation.

According to him, the police team stormed a bush suspected to be a hideout for the criminals but encountered resistance from the suspects.

The suspects, however, were unable to withstand the firepower of the operatives, prompting some of them to flee and abandon the firearms and ammunition.

The three suspects were subsequently arrested, while the recovered weapons were taken into police custody.

The command said the suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe confraternity during interrogation.

It added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the group believed to be operating within the Ughelli and Kokori axes.

The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, warned kidnappers, armed robbers and cultists in the state that the command would continue to identify their hideouts and disrupt their activities.

He said the police would ensure that those found culpable were brought to justice.
