The inspector was reportedly killed on Monday, September 14, 2026, and his remains were later deposited at a morgue.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement identified the suspects as Olivia Patrick, 31, and ThankGod Mourice, 25, and said they were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
It read, “The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly linked to the murder of a Police Inspector at the residence of the Honourable Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Hon. Barr. Rex Anunobi, on 14th September 2026.
“The suspects, Olivia Patrick, male, aged 31, and ThankGod Mourice, male, aged 25, were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.”
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Okoye said, “Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, psc(+), mnips, directed a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
“In compliance with the directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), alongside the DPO, New Owerri Division, visited the scene, where necessary examinations were conducted and relevant exhibits recovered and secured. The remains of the deceased Inspector were subsequently deposited at the mortuary.”
The case has been transferred to the SCID for further investigation, while the police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects believed to be at large.
“The matter has since been transferred to the SCID for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects currently at large.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the investigating team to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law. The incident is a painful reminder of the risks and sacrifices police officers face in the discharge of their duties,” the statement added.
Bosso commiserated with the family of the deceased inspector and assured them that the command remained committed to ensuring that justice was served.
“Audu Garba Bosso commiserates with the family of the deceased Inspector and assures them that the Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served.
“To this end, the Command assures residents that the situation is under control and that appropriate security measures are in place to safeguard lives and property across the State. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information that may assist the ongoing investigation.”
