The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 3,897 police officers, including two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to Deputy Inspectors-General and 10 Commissioners of Police to AIGs.

The promotions were approved at the commission’s plenary meeting in Abuja on Thursday, presided over by its chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.).

A statement by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the PSC, Torty Njoku Kalu, said the officers were promoted after passing examinations and oral interviews conducted by the commission.

The two officers elevated to the rank of DIG are Olaolu Adegbite, who heads the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja, and Dankombo F. Morris, head of Zone 4 Headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State.

Adegbite previously served as Director of Operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, while Morris was Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State.

The commission also promoted 10 CPs to AIG. They are Omosanyin Olusegun, Ogbodo Ugobueze, Ohagwu Ndukwe, Taylor Olanrewaju, Regina Udoette, Afolabi Olutokunbo, Nwogoh Martin, Shetima Mohammed, Ibrahim Gotan and Danjuma Iyahaya.

Seventeen Deputy Commissioners of Police were also elevated to the rank of CP.

In other categories, 85 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to DCP, 49 Chief Superintendents of Police to ACP, 245 Superintendents of Police to CSP and 498 Deputy Superintendents of Police to SP.

The commission also approved the promotion of 3,218 Assistant Superintendents of Police to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Among those promoted from SP to CSP was the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh.

Others in the category included Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command; Abah James of the Rivers State Command; and Okere Romanus, Divisional Police Officer of Isiowulu Division, Anambra State.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, Argungu urged them to regard their elevation as an incentive to improve their performance.

He said much was expected of them in carrying out their duties, particularly in protecting lives and property and enforcing the law.
