Scores of students have been reportedly feared dead after a petroleum tanker crushed pupils of Army Children Primary School Effurun, in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The students were said to have been returning home from school when the tanker, ladened with petroleum product, ran into them.

The accident occurred directly opposite the three battalion Barrack of the Nigerian Army in Effurun, near Warri.

Our correspondent who visited the scene of the incident gathered that twelve students were rushed to the Central Hospital Warri while military men barricaded the road, thereby preventing journalists from getting to the scene of the accident.

According to an eyewitness account, nine of the pupils were confirmed dead on arrival while three others have been referred to the state teaching hospital in Oghara.

A joint team of the Nigerian Army, FRSC and other security agencies were seen making frantic efforts to recover the remaining pupils being trapped under the tanker as at the time of filing this report.
