A 29-year-old man, Esan Tolulope, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, accused of alleged theft of 18 iron rods valued at N75,000. The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 6, at about 11:45 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole 18 iron rods valued at N75,000 belonging to the complainant, Alfa Ismali.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adosun, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum. He adjourned the case until October 9 for further hearing.
