The Federal Government has approved ₦10.5 billion for 32,000 digital training licences to expand access to quality education and improve employability.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, made the disclosure at the launching of the Digital Training Academy (DTA), a programme designed to equip 32,000 Nigerians with globally recognised digital skills and certifications in areas including Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and IT Automation.
Alausa said the programme will provide free training through Coursera and Pluralsight, with access centres equipped with internet connectivity and learning devices being made available across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to promote wider participation.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, said the digital training programme would strengthen Nigeria’s talent pipeline and create a pathway for skilled Nigerians to participate in the global labour market.
Giving the breakdown of the programme, National Coordinator of the Strategic Programme and Oversight Implementation Unit, SPOIU, Adebayo Onigbanjo, said applicants are required to register with their National Identification Number and undergo skills and behavioural assessments, with candidates scoring at least 65 percent qualifying for placement.
The pioneer cohort covers ten high-demand digital tracks, with Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning recording the highest enrolments, while learners will receive mentorship, facilitator support and access to physical study centres.
