The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu.
According to the police, the victim was attacked at Gaida, Kumbotso LGA by suspected hoodlums who forcibly entered his residence.
Danshagamu was later confirmed dead at Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital.
"The suspects are in custody, while investigation and efforts to arrest other accomplices are ongoing," the police said in a terse statement on Thursday.
Kwankwaso demands justice for deceased
Meanwhile, the vice presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has lamented that Danshagamu's body was found today in a pool of his blood at his home in Kano.
In a statement, Kwankwaso, who once governed Kano State, urged the government to immediately constitute an investigative panel to thoroughly probe the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
"Should the authorities fail to take decisive and transparent action, the incoming NDC Government will, upon assumption of office, launch a full investigation and take all necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable.
"I further call on both the State and Federal Governments to protect opposition voices from harm. The Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression for all citizens, and this right must shield everyone from threats, attacks, and intimidation.
"The Nigerian authorities must ensure a full investigation and that those responsible are held accountable.
"I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and followers. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen,: Kwankwaso said.
