The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old convicted drug dealer for allegedly using a 14-year-old boy to deliver illicit drugs to customers.
The police also rescued the teenager, identified as Samuel Nkemakolan Kosi, during an operation by operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit on Monday, October 26.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the boy was intercepted at about 11am while allegedly conveying a granular whitish substance suspected to be methamphetamine, also known as Ice.
Habib said the teenager told investigators that he had been sent by the suspect, Samuel Ogochukwu, to deliver the substance to a customer.
Detectives subsequently traced and arrested Ogochukwu at his location.
A search of the suspect’s shop and residence led to the recovery of 3.5 grammes of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine, 17 sachets of 100mg tramadol capsules, five sachets of 300mg pregabalin capsules and seven sachets of diazepam.
The police also recovered 12 Exol tablets, two wraps of a substance known as Yellow Boys and one sachet of Shine Shine Leather.
According to the statement, the suspect told investigators that he received supplies of illicit drugs through waybills from Onitsha, Anambra State.
Habib said the teenager had been handled in line with juvenile protection procedures and would be reunited with his family after counselling.
The police spokesperson added that the principal suspect would be charged to court after the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for the arrest and said the command would sustain its campaign against drug trafficking and other crimes.
The command also said four major drug busts and subsequent convictions had been recorded within 10 days, warning criminal elements that operations against illicit drug trade would continue.
