The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Ugbor Chika Paul, over allegations of serial rape, robbery and sextortion involving female victims, including Point-of-Sale operators.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly lured women to secluded locations under the pretext of conducting transactions before robbing and sexually assaulting them.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, detailing three alleged incidents involving victims aged 20, 30 and 21.
According to the police, the first victim, a 20-year-old POS operator at Akwata Market, Enugu, was allegedly lured to a bush behind St Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, at about 11am on May 21, 2026. The suspect allegedly raped her and stole ₦600,000.
The second victim, a 30-year-old POS operator at the same market, was allegedly taken to the same location at about 5pm on August 11. The police said the suspect allegedly stole ₦120,000 from her after failing to rape her.
In the third incident, the suspect allegedly used Facebook to pose as Franklin Umeh and lure a 21-year-old woman to Old Park, Enugu, on October 4. He allegedly took her to a bush around Udi Siding, where he raped and sexually assaulted her.
The police said the suspect allegedly recorded nude images of the third victim, stole ₦100,000 and her phone, and threatened to circulate the video unless she paid ₦200,000.
He also allegedly used the victim’s phone to contact some of her WhatsApp contacts.
Ndukwe said a phone recovered from the suspect reportedly contained nude images and video clips of identified and unidentified victims.
The police said investigations were ongoing and the suspect would be arraigned after their conclusion. The command urged other possible victims, particularly women who had experienced sexual violence, cyberstalking or sextortion, to come forward and assist the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling sexual violence, robbery and other crimes, while urging women and business operators to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
