The police on Tuesday charged three people before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo over alleged housebreaking and theft of N4.2 million and other valuables.
The defendants are: Ibrahim Habeeb, 25; Jamilu Ibrahim, 27; and Yunusa Zangi, 30.
They pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, stealing, and receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, Insp. Opeyemi Lawal, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Sept. 25 at about 2:38 a.m. at No. 1, Ola-Oti Street, Obasa Sabo, Abeokuta.
Lawal alleged that the first and second defendants unlawfully entered into the premises of the complainant, Miss Bolanle Johnson, and stole the cash sum of N4.2 million.
He added that Habeeb and Ibrahim broke into the house through the ceiling.
Lawal said the defendants also stole a Redmi mobile phone valued at N320,000 and a Tecno Spark 20 valued at N320,000.
Other items include two power banks valued at N76,000 and a gold earring valued at N40,000, property of Miss Bolanle.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor alleged that the third defendant, Zangi, received the stolen items from Habeeb and Ibrahim, knowing them to be stolen.
According to him, Habeeb and Ibrahim, unaware of the presence of security guards, were apprehended and subsequently handed over to the police.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of section 390(4 a/b), 427 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol.1 Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Miss O.T. Odubanjo, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with one surety in like sum.
Odubanjo said that the sureties must be registered bondsmen with the Ogun State Judiciary.
She ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 18 for hearing.
