President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible for the killing of Islamic preacher Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, in Katsina State.
The two men were killed in a drive-by shooting by gunmen in Dutsin-Ma on Monday evening.
Tinubu condemned the killings on Tuesday, describing them as an attack on the sanctity of human life and the values of peace.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed sadness over the incident and extended his condolences to the victims’ families, followers and the government and people of Katsina State.
He directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to strengthen the efforts already being undertaken by the Katsina State Police Command to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The President also prayed for the repose of the deceased and comfort for their families and others mourning their deaths.
The killings come amid continuing security concerns in Katsina and other parts of the North-West, where armed groups have carried out attacks, kidnappings and killings.
The statement did not disclose whether any suspects had been arrested or provide further details about the circumstances of the shooting.
