Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has made his second documented appearance on the Lagos Fashion Week runway, joining professional models to showcase a collection by Nigerian designer Ugo Monye.
The governor walked the runway at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on Saturday, drawing cheers from the audience as he joined the models during the presentation.
Sanwo-Olu later described the appearance as an opportunity to support the state’s growing creative industry, saying he had stepped away from his usual governance duties for the event.
“I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week,” he wrote on his X account.
He said Lagos was increasingly becoming a home for fashion, creativity and culture, adding that he was proud of creatives putting the state on the global fashion stage.
The appearance was his second documented participation in the event. He first walked the runway in October 2023, when he closed Nigerian designer Emmy Kasbit’s presentation.
Founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele, Lagos Fashion Week provides a platform for Nigerian and other African designers to showcase their collections and connect with buyers, retailers, investors and international fashion stakeholders.
The 2026 edition, themed “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures.”, ran from October 28 to November 1, featuring runway presentations and activities focused on fashion entrepreneurship, talent development and sustainable production.
