Properties worth millions of Naira have been destroyed when a tanker filled with the premium Motor Spirit, PMS popularly known as petrol, spilt its contents and caught fire at Inalende area, near Mokola in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to our correspondent who was at the scene of the inferno, a whole street along the Omitowoju area of Mokola roundabout in Ibadan was completely razed down.

The incident was said to have happened around half past six on Monday evening, when the tanker, with Lagos registration number XJ 288 SMK, fell off as it was trying to maneuver its way at a junction in the area.

The inferno was said to have occurred when a fuel tanker filled with petrol fell while trying to navigate a bend in the area. The tanker with the registration number, LAGOS XJ 288 SMK fell around the St. Stephen Primary School junction, where a food vendor was cooking.

Galaxy news also gathered that the driver, who against advice, chose to ply a neighborhood road under construction had ran away with two other occupants of the tanker immediately the inferno started.

Some residents who spoke with Galaxy news lamented their losses to the fire, while others were searching for their loved ones.

By the time the fire was brought under control by men of the state fire service who were also accused of negligence in the course of response to distress calls from the residents, about fifty houses including shops had been razed down with unspecified numbers of cars and properties as well as goods worth several millions of naira.
