Grammy-winning South African singer Tyla has launched a $50,000 scholarship programme to support young women pursuing music degrees, including four students from South Africa.

The initiative, known as the That Girl Music Scholarship, will provide $5,000 each to 10 female students as part of efforts to help aspiring musicians pursue their academic and professional ambitions.

The programme is a partnership between Tyla, Sony Music and the Institute of International Education. It is named after “That Girl”, a song on the singer’s APOP* album.

Beyond financial assistance, recipients will receive exclusive concert tickets and opportunities to meet the singer.

The initiative was announced as Tyla began the European leg of her 34-date A*POP World Tour in Paris on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The opening show took place at Zénith Paris-La Villette, with South African DJ and producer Royal MusiQ and Nigerian singer Bloody Civilian joining the line-up as special guests for the European dates.

Four of the scholarships will go to South African students, while other beneficiaries will include students from locations on the tour’s United States leg.

The programme adds an educational component to Tyla’s growing international career, using her music platform to create opportunities for young women seeking careers in the industry.

Following the European dates, the tour is scheduled to move to North America, beginning in California on November 12.

Tyla is also expected to return to South Africa for two performances in January 2027, with concerts scheduled for Cape Town on January 4 and Johannesburg on January 9.
