A new Resident Evil film has opened in cinemas worldwide, marking a fresh start for the popular horror franchise.
The film, released on Friday, September 18, 2026, is directed by Zach Cregger, known for Barbarian, and written by Cregger and Shay Hatten.
Starring Austin Abrams as Bryan, alongside Paul Walter Hauser, Kali Reis and Zach Cherry, the 90-minute film follows a medical courier who travels to Raccoon City Hospital to deliver a package.
His routine assignment takes a deadly turn when a sudden viral outbreak leaves the city infected and Bryan trapped inside.
With only one night to survive, Bryan must fight his way through the outbreak while trying to stay alive.
The film is rated R for strong bloody violence, language throughout and gore.
Unlike previous live-action adaptations, the new movie is a complete reboot and is not connected to the Resident Evil film series directed by Paul W.S. Anderson or Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
The new instalment instead focuses on the survival-horror elements associated with the original game franchise, placing its story around one character's struggle to survive an infected Raccoon City.
