Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has apologised to fans after his scheduled Cardiff show failed to hold amid a dispute over outstanding payments between performers and event organisers.
The comedian was billed to perform at the Cardiff leg of his AY Live: Single and Not Searching UK tour at Valegate Retail Park on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
However, attendees reportedly waited for hours without the show taking place, with confusion and arguments said to have broken out among some members of the audience. Police were also reportedly present at the venue, while several ticket holders eventually left disappointed.
In an apology issued on Monday, October 26, AY said he and the other comedians billed for the event had arrived in Cardiff and were at the venue but could not perform because of a disagreement over outstanding payments with the organisers.
He explained that by the time the financial issue was resolved, much of the audience had already left.
AY expressed regret that fans who had travelled to attend the show were caught up in the dispute, saying they deserved better organisation and communication.
“You deserved a properly organised show and timely information. You should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute,” he said.
The comedian did not name those responsible for the disagreement but called on the team managing the UK tour to provide clear information about refunds and other possible remedies for affected ticket holders.
He added that confirmed updates would be communicated through his official platforms.
As of the time of filing this report, the event organisers had yet to publicly comment on the incident or explain the circumstances that led to the show’s failure to hold.
