President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his financial pledge to the Super Falcons, with each player receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000 for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Members of the team’s technical crew and officials also received the equivalent of $50,000 each, completing the cash component of the presidential reward package announced after Nigeria clinched its 10th continental title.

The National Sports Commission disclosed the payments in a statement on Monday, saying the Federal Government had fulfilled its commitment to the team.

The players had previously received title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and certificates of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.

NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, said the payment demonstrated the President’s commitment to rewarding sporting excellence and ensuring athletes received their entitlements promptly.

“The Super Falcons made Nigeria proud, and Mr President has honoured his commitment to them in full. This means a great deal to the team and to Nigerian sports,” Dikko said.

He thanked Tinubu for ensuring the rewards were delivered in record time, adding that the development would encourage Nigerian athletes to represent the country with confidence.

According to the commission, the payment was facilitated through collaboration with the Ministries of Finance, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development.

Dikko said the fulfilment of the pledge marked a departure from previous experiences in which athletes waited years for promised rewards.

“Some of our sports heroes endured years of waiting for promises to be fulfilled. President Tinubu has shown that things can be done differently,” he said.

Tinubu announced the rewards at a presidential reception for the team on July 28, 2025, following their dramatic 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final in Rabat.

The Super Falcons recovered from a two-goal deficit, with Esther Okoronkwo converting a penalty in the 64th minute before Folashade Ijamilusi equalised seven minutes later. Jennifer Echegini scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute.

The latest payment follows a similar reward package fulfilled for Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, whose players received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each in September after winning their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025.

The Federal Government had also presented housing documents and national honours to members of the Super Eagles following their silver-medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
