Barau FC and Kwara United drew 1-1 in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday.

Anthony Sunday gave Barau FC the lead in the 41st minute, capitalising on the hosts’ attacking pressure to secure a half-time advantage.

However, Kwara United equalised in the 61st minute through debutant Goodluck Ogbolu, restoring parity and earning the visitors a share of the points.

Kwara United pressed for a winning goal, but Barau FC’s defence held firm, preventing the visitors from completing a comeback.

Speaking after the match, Barau FC Head Coach Eugene Agbabe blamed poor finishing for his team’s failure to secure victory.

Agbabe said his players created several scoring opportunities, particularly in the first half, but failed to convert their chances.

“We could have scored two or three goals before half-time,” he said, adding that the technical crew would work to improve the team’s finishing.

He said the team would also focus on restoring its winning mentality after going three matches without a victory.

“We have now gone three matches without a win, so we must break that run in our next game,” he said.

Agbabe urged his players to improve their performances, assuring supporters that the team would continue working hard to achieve its objectives for the season.

He added that the team needed collective improvement, noting that players in other positions should contribute goals when the attackers struggled to score.

Kwara United Head Coach, Ashifat Sulyman, expressed optimism about his team’s progress, saying the technical crew would build on the draw to secure more positive results.

“This is the way to move forward. We will build on this result and continue to improve,” he said.
