Keshi welcomes Uzoenyi to Brazil, confirms Echejile's drop

The Enugu Rangers forward who was recalled to the Nigeria squad following an injury to Echiejile has teamed up with the Eagles in Brazil Enugu Rangers winger Ejike Uzoenyi has teamed up with his Super Eagles colleagues in Brazil on Wednesday evening for the 2014 Fifa World Cup, Goal can report.

The 2014 African Nations Championship Most Valuable Player who was recalled to replace injured Elderson Echiejile was delayed by his Nigerian club after their failure to recieve formal notice from the Nigeria Football Federation.

"Uzoenyi who was named by Keshi as replacement arrived Brazil by 4pm local time from Nigeria," Super Eagles spokesman, Ben Alaiya said.

On the other hand, team administrator Dayo Enebi Achor explained that all logistics to reintegrate Ejike Uzoenyi into the team quickly have been made.

“I guess with his [Ejike] arrival and he will start training for Nigerians to finally come to the reality that we will miss Echejile in this World Cup," he said.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles handler Stephen Keshi has debunked claims in the media that he held on to injured Elderson Echejile against medical advice.

Reports in the media [Not Goal] has it that the 'big boss' is hell bent on keeping injured Echejile in camp despite the announcement that he has been dropped for Uzoenyi.

“We have spoken to the medical team and the NFF and we have agreed, so I was a bit shocked when I got a call from some of my friends back home that I insisted on an injured player. It’s a fallacy because I never spoke to anyone about Echejile,” said Keshi.

The African Champions have settled down at their at Estadio Brinco de Ouro da Princesa Team Base Camp in Campinas to start their preparation to face Iran (16 June), Bosnia-Herzegovina (21 June) and Argentina (25 June).
