The Nigerian Army has inaugurated new residential and recreational facilities in Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of its personnel.

The projects, commissioned at Adekunle Fajuyi and Letmauck Cantonments, include accommodation for junior soldiers and married officers, an officers’ mess and sports facilities.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Waidi Shaibu, represented by the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Maj-Gen Auwalu Mahmuda, said the investments reflected the Army’s commitment to building a professional and welfare-oriented force.

He said operational effectiveness depended not only on military preparedness but also on a strong administrative foundation and decent living conditions for personnel.

At Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, the projects include two 10-man transit accommodation units for personnel of corporal rank and below, five 36-family Corporal Below Quarters blocks and two Regimental Sergeant Major houses for the 2 Mechanised Infantry Brigade and 502 Signal Brigade.

At Letmauck Cantonment, Mokola, the facilities inaugurated include the 81 Battalion Officers’ Mess, sports facilities and three-bedroom semi-detached duplexes for married officers.

In separate welcome addresses, the Commander of 42 Engineer Brigade, Brig-Gen Uche Okoroji, and the Commanding Officer of 81 Battalion, Lt-Col Innocent Asogwa, commended the Chief of Army Staff and the GOC for approving and facilitating the projects.
