Yoruba leaders plan new movement

An appeal has gone to all the Yoruba under different political platforms in Nigeria to unite and present a common front in order to reposition the region ahead of 2019 general elections.


Rising from a National Colloquium held in Ibadan,  the Oyo State capital, notable Yoruba leaders agreed that there is an urgent need for the Yoruba to be united.

The National Colloquium with the theme,  Resetting the Yoruba Nation's Agenda for Rapid. Systematic and sustainable Development, brought together notable leaders of thought in Yoruba land across party length.

About a week ago, some leaders in the southwest,  which comprised governors, ministers and other leaders of the All Progressive Congress met in Ibadan on the future of Yoruba race.

The intention of the gathering,  is to ensure unity of purpose among the Yoruba towards creating a political movement.

The chairman of the event,  who is also the former National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress,  Bisi  Akande admitted that Yoruba race has come of age and cannot be relegated by any government noting that all hands must be on the deck by the leaders to reunite all dissecting voices.

In their separate presentation, Ambassador Yemi Faronbi and Dr..  Kunle Olajide bemoaned the state of the Yoruba race in the present day adding that the race has become a target for oppression and is being neglected.

The called on all Yoruba leaders irrespective of their political affiliation to come together and form a political movement which will lead to their emancipation come 2019.

Speaking on way forward, former  Minister, Doyin Okupe  and the founder of Oodua Peoples Congress,  Fredrick Dashing insisted that the Yoruba must rise up and take their destiny in their hands adding that,  it is not compulsory to wait for a national conference before Yoruba agenda can be implemented

The event was attended by notable Yoruba leaders and groups from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states while the Governors of Oyo and Ondo were equally represented at the colloquium.
