The Police Command in Oyo State has confirmed an attack on the supporters of the Accord governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat, at the Molete area of Ibadan on Wednesday.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan.
“I am aware of the attacks.
“The supporters of Hamzat were ambushed during a peaceful procession at the Molete end of the ancient city,” Ayanlade said.
It was reported that the incident happened when Hazmat’s supporters trooped out to welcome him back to Nigeria on his return from the United Kingdom.
An eyewitness said that some supporters sustained injuries while vehicles in the convoy were vandalised during the attack.
The eyewitness said the intervention of security personnel and Hamzat’s efforts to calm his supporters prevented a possible reprisal attack.
