The bandits, kidnappers and others now pay for their crime, as the Federal Government arraigned 5 bandits commanders over their alleged complicity in the May 15 kidnapping of school pupils and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, and the subsequent killing of 2 teachers.

The five suspects arraigned before a Federal High Court, Abuja, presided by Justice Salim Ibrahin, were linked to membership of the Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi-Biladis Sudan, ANSARU, terrorist group.

They were identified by the DSS as Mahmud Muhammad - aka Abu Bara’a, Abbas Mukhtar; Abubakar Abbas - aka Isah Adam, Mallam Mahmuda Al-Nigeri; Abdulrazak Umar - aka Abu Khalifa/Abu Khalid; Yunusa Musa - aka Abu Yunusa Bin Musa; and Shamsu Adamu Sani - aka Abu Itisar.

The presiding Judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, , Justice Salim Ibrahin, adjourned the case to September 24 for the commencement of trial. He ordered that the five men remain in the custody of the DSS.

In August 2025, DSS operatives captured top Mahmuda commanders, Abubakar Abba Mahmuda Abu Bara’a and Abubakar Abbas aka Mallam Mahmuda Al-Nigeri. Weeks ago, during the rescue of the Oriire captives, the DSS captured three more persons linked to the terror attack and the Ansaru organisation.

Last week, a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Mahmud Usman (Abu Bara’a) and his deputy, Mahmud al-Nigeri, to life imprisonment after they both pleaded guilty to some charges in the 32-count charge of belonging to a terrorist organisation, among others.
