Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji has disengaged all directors-general of government agencies and technical advisers, completing a major shake-up of political appointees ahead of his second-term inauguration.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Tuesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode.
The affected officials have been directed to submit their handover notes to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
According to the statement, the disengagement came barely 24 hours after Oyebanji dissolved the State Executive Council, marking the completion of the process for political appointees in his administration.
“The disengagement ... marks the completion of the disengagement process for political appointees serving in the administration, except for a few whose appointments have been retained in view of the nature of their assignments,” the statement said.
Oyeb anji expressed appreciation to the affected officials for their service, acknowledging their “support, commitment and contributions to the administration as well as the development of Ekiti State”.
He also wished them success in their future endeavours.
The move comes as the governor prepares for his second-term inauguration on October 16, following the winding down of his first term.
On September 27, Oyebanji had dissolved the boards of commissions and parastatals and terminated the appointments of political aides. Directors-general and technical advisers were exempted from that exercise before Tuesday’s announcement.
