Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said no words can adequately ease the pain of families who lost loved ones in Monday’s Nigerian Air Force plane crash in Ondo State.

Atiku, in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Tuesday, said the death of 25 people in the crash had left families facing a loss that words could not repair.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State that claimed 25 lives,” he said.

He said the victims included airmen, soldiers and members of their families, describing the incident as “one devastating moment” in which lives of service, promise and innocence were lost.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of all the deceased. No words can adequately comfort parents who have lost children, children who have lost parents, or families suddenly deprived of their loved ones,” Atiku said.

The ADC presidential candidate extended his condolences to the Nigerian Air Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the governments and people of Ondo State and Nigeria.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased and strength for their families to cope with the loss.

The Nigerian Air Force said all 25 people on board the ATR-42 aircraft died after it crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State while on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.

The aircraft, with registration number NAF 931, had five crew members and 20 passengers on board, according to the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

President Bola Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning over the tragedy and ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Vice President Kashim Shettima also assured the bereaved families that the Federal Government’s responsibility to them “will not end with words of condolence”.
