Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has described the late Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, as a man whose life of discipline, humility and selfless service should inspire the younger generation.
Makinde, who spoke on Wednesday at the residence of the late elder statesman in Akure, Ondo State, said Fasoranti exemplified politics devoid of calumny and focused on development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fasoranti died on Tuesday at his residence in Akure at the age of 100.
The governor said although the late statesman might not have accumulated enormous material wealth, he had bequeathed a legacy of selfless service and development-oriented politics.
“Papa lived a life that has shown a path for the coming generation towards service to the people and politics of development,” he said.
Makinde said he particularly cherished Fasoranti’s humility, noting that the elder statesman maintained a high level of discipline and lived a Spartan life.
He regretted that some politicians operated with a low level of discipline, adding that the late leader stood out for his principled conduct.
