Ntufam Ojogu, a Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) House of Representatives candidate in Cross River, says the party will resist rigging during the 2027 elections.

Ojogu, NDC candidate for Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, made the statement in an interview with newsmen in Calabar on Wednesday.

He told other political parties to avoid acts of intimidation, harassment and attempts to manipulate election results.

Ojogu, a former Attorney-General in Cross River, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level playing field for all political parties during the election.

“It is the duty of INEC to ensure a credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral process. They must be seen to be doing the right thing.

“It is also the right of voters to protect their votes through lawful participation and vigilance. The system must allow voters to exercise this right,” he said.

The politician stated that the time had come for politics to be played without intimidation and harassment, saying, “votes must count, people’s wishes must prevail”

Ojogu also urged political parties to focus on campaigning and winning the support of voters rather than issuing threats.

“The mandate in a democracy belongs to the people. If the people want you, they will vote for you, If they do not, they will vote you out,” he said.

The NDC candidate urged voters to come out en masse on election days to cast their votes for parties and candidates of their choice.

He urged the electorate to protect their votes by observing the counting process and following the results until they had been officially announced by INEC.

Ojogu said that his decision to seek election into the House of Representatives was borne out of the hardship being faced by ordinary Nigerians.

“I got motivated to seek election to represent my people because I have been part of the pain; things must change for the better,” he said.
